Why Bother with Tire Rotation

For those unfamiliar with cars and their mechanical operation, rotating tires may seem like an unnecessary expense. Every time you go for an oil change the technician mentions it, but you often think he's just trying to make a few more dollars from you. While this may be the case for some recommendations, tire rotation is certainly not one of them.

Rotating the tires on a fairly regular basis will help to ensure that the tires wear evenly all the way around the car. With most cars, they are either a front wheel drive or rear wheel drive. This causes the tires on the vehicle to wear differently than the other two tires. Also, the tires on the front of the car will wear differently solely from steering the car. If you choose not to rotate the tires, you will find that you need to replace two tires before the other two have worn out. It's always best to purchase 4 tires at the same time, which optimizes handling since the tires are meant to be sold in sets of 4, so if you rotate them on a regular basis, the tires should wear evenly all the way around. Another positive aspect to rotating tires is that if there is a problem with the balancing and alignment, it will most likely get noticed during a tire rotation and you can deal with these problems at the same time.
