Powering Up Your Home or Office with Diesel Generators
Most people know that diesel is used to power cars. Cars powered by diesel engines, especially nowadays, are becoming more and more common with the regularly rising prices of oil and fuel. What people don't know is that diesel has as lot of other applications. One such application is the diesel generator, which is used all around the world, usually as an emergency power supply.
A diesel generator is the product of a diesel engine and an electrical generator put together. These generators are used for two main purposes. One purpose is to provide power as a regular source of electricity, while the other purpose is to act as an emergency power supply.
The first purpose of diesel generators is to provide power as a regular source of electricity. This usually happens in areas that are not connected to the nearest power grid. In cases like this, these generators are built to generate as much as 2000 kVA of electricity. In addition, these generators are usually grouped together in parallel so that there will be enough electricity generated for the power plant they are in. In most cases, generator based power plants have three to six diesel generators working together to provide power.
There are also diesel generators that serve as emergency power supplies. These generators are typically smaller than power plant diesel generators. Portable diesel generators can generate between 1kVA to 10kVA of electricity, while the larger ones used in offices and homes have capacities between 8kVA to 30kVA.
Today, more and more homes, offices, and power plants are using diesel generators. New uses are also being developed for them. In ships, for instance, diesel generators are used to propel and power the ship with electricity. Since the generators do not need to be installed near the propellers and can be placed at a distance, they give the ship more flexibility. They also allow ships to use available space more efficiently. Diesel generators are also useful in many other industries.
